Your Source for Cheap Atlanta Apartments and more!

OK, the hunt for new digs in Atlanta is ON. Whether you are moving out of Mom and Dad’s house, a college dorm, or another city, you need a place to live. Where do you begin an apartment search in a city that covers 132 square miles? (Infoplease.com) CheapApartments.com wants to help you narrow your search by offering insight into the geographic makeup of Atlanta. Knowing a bit about how the city works will make the awesome task of finding an apartment a little more manageable.

Did you know that Atlanta has 242 neighborhoods that are a mix of:
- traditional neighborhoods
- subdivisions or groups of subdivisions
- housing projects
- core areas such as Downtown and Midtown

Neighborhoods are further refined into “districts”. The term “district” in Atlanta is generally used for small areas within the official neighborhoods. Downtown and Midtown Atlanta each contain a number of districts. Another example is Little Five Points which sits on the border of three (3) official neighborhoods. Refer to the Wikipedia article “Neighborhoods in Atlanta” to see a complete rundown on all of Atlanta’s districts with a detailed map of neighborhoods. In addition, Atlanta has various other divisions such as business improvement districts, police patrol zones, and in the unique case of Buckhead, a “community”. Most of Atlanta north of I-75 and I-85 is part of the “Buckhead Community”.

Although Atlanta IS officially divided into neighborhoods, it is more common in the media and among Atlantans to refer to larger areas of the city by broader designations such as:
- Downtown, Midtown, and most of the central, east-central, west-central neighborhoods are referred to by their names as these are well-known throughout the Atlanta metro area and most contain regional destinations such as the Zoo in Grant Park or the shops and restaurants in Virginia Highland.
- Buckhead neighborhoods are referred to collectively as Buckhead and this covers the entire northern fifth of the city (north of I-75 and I-85).
- Other areas are generally referred to as part of either “Northwest”, “Southwest”, or “Southeast Atlanta”.

Once you have familiarized yourself with some of Atlanta’s neighborhood offerings, go to CheapApartments.com and start looking for the apartment of your dreams in one of the best cities in the South. Happy CheapApartment Hunting!
